Via an Instagram post recently, we set up a safe space for you to vent and process your experiences of acne. As you very likely know, acne makes people feel, well, really uncomfortable, and propels them to respond in not-okay ways. While it sucks that society has been conditioned this way, sharing stories and leaning on your community can be helpful.
So when we asked, What's The Worst Way Someone Has Shamed Your Acne?, an overwhelming number of you shared your stories, and then, importantly, supported each other afterwards. #zittycommittee!
We thought we'd share a few of those stories as a little reminder that acne is still so misunderstood, and that no matter what stage of the journey you're at, there's a supportive community of people to help you get through it...
THE STRANGERS AND CUSTOMERS
THE SCHOOLYARD
THE "YOU'RE DOING IT ALL WRONG" THING
THE "YOU COULD BE SO PRETTY" THING
THE THINLY VEILED RACISM
THE FRIENDS AND FAMILY
Remember! Situations are temporary, and things evolve every day. Focus on progress over perfection; and part ways with people who aren't open and empathetic. That still leaves rude strangers to contend with, but who cares what's strangers think?!
